A Job That Looked Impossible at First
There’s no such thing as a routine call in towing. Some days we’re pulling a box truck off I-575. Other days, we’re squeezing into a residential garage barely big enough to walk around in. That was the case with a recent flatbed towing job we completed in Woodstock. The challenge before us involved a 2020 Mercedes-Benz GLE350. The vehicle was completely locked down: battery dead, no power, and no way to even open the doors.

The Problem Wasn’t Just the Car
The picture presented to us on arrival was as follows: a single-car garage with an extremely short driveway, boxed in on one side by an electrical panel and on the other by a yard with delicate irrigation heads. The SUV was parked nose-in. No room to maneuver on either side. Even if the vehicle had power, driving it out wasn’t an option.
When we first arrived, we sent a medium-duty flatbed. The truck was simply too big for the space. Instead of forcing it and risking damage to the customer’s property, we scheduled a return visit for the following morning with a different plan.
The Return with a Two-Truck Strategy
The next day, we came back with both a light-duty flatbed and a medium-duty flatbed. Having two trucks on-site gave us more flexibility and options for recovery angles.
What followed was nearly seven hours of steady, careful work. We had to hook and winch three separate times just to reposition the Mercedes from its tight parking spot to a safe angle for loading. Every move had to be measured to the inch. Too far left, and we risked clipping the electrical box. Too far right, and the irrigation system could be damaged. The light-duty flatbed gave us the maneuverability we needed in the driveway, while the medium-duty provided the pulling power when angles got tough.
Seven Hours of Patience
This wasn’t the kind of job where you muscle through it. It was about patience, problem-solving, and teamwork. Each pull shifted the SUV just enough to make the next move possible. We double-checked every hookup, reset angles multiple times, and made sure the property stayed intact.
Here’s what made the recovery so tricky:
- No power access: With the vehicle fully locked down, we couldn’t roll, steer, or shift it. Every move required controlled winching.
- Tight garage space: Inches of clearance on both sides meant we had to reposition carefully with every pull.
- Property hazards: The electrical box and irrigation system created zero-tolerance zones for mistakes.
By the end, the GLE350 was finally secured on the flatbed with no scratches, dents, or property damage. A success that came down to persistence, planning, and a Woodstock flatbed towing job well done.
